The procedure will be assisted by a sonographer who will be the first person to identify and defect. Seeing the baby’s face and hands on the computer monitor is an exciting moment and you can share a happy moment with your spouse and other family members.

Checking Structural Abnormalities Through Anomaly Scan

The anomaly scan will help doctors examine the growth of the body and Internet organs of the child. It is the stage when severe brain impairment can be identified easily. The scan allows the doctor to examine the structure and shape of the baby’s brain and head. The cleft lip on the baby’s face will be visible. But the cleft palate inside the mouth will not be visible. The cross-section and length of the baby’s spine will ensure if the bones are in proper alignment and if the skin covers the spine.

The doctor can make sure if the internal organs are intact by checking the abdominal wall. The heart is checked for its size. The heart’s chamber and ventricles should be of the same size. The valve should close and open with the heartbeat. The arteries and veins can also be checked. The amniotic fluid will be seen as black bubbles in the babies stomach. The scan will identify if there are two kidneys. The baby’s bladder should fill up while the scan is performed and the urine should flow freely into the bladder. The sonographer can view the baby’s fingers, hands, arms, toes, feet and legs. Though he may not count the number of fingers or toes.
